Don’t Stop Believing

20 Apr

Remember all my talk last spring about Couch to 5K?  And then it got too hot to run outside, so I kind of quit.  I tried again in the fall, but couldn’t get my schedule sorted out and kind of dropped out again.  And then I hurt my back, then I hurt it again and again…with all of that, it’s been at least 6 months since I ran.  I’ve been in too much pain and had too little energy.

But one day last week I woke up and my pain levels were maybe a 2, instead of the 7 (or 8…or 9) they had been for months.  I know people will roll their eyes, but it was literally like I was healed over night.  It still hurts at the end of a long day or if I am in certain positions for too long, but the excruciating, exhausting pain is gone.  I am doing stuff with the kids again, I am working on cleaning up the 3 months of mess that nobody else in this house has bothered to touch, and I feel like there’s a possibility of this going away completely.  If you’ve been reading the past few months, you know this last point is huge.

I have been toying with the idea of going out and running for a few days.  I was a little scared, but I was ready to make some effort toward losing the weight I’ve put on while I was in too much pain to care.  So this afternoon I suited up, got my husband to drive me over to Kiwanis Greenway (just in case I passed out or fell or randomly got shot) and RAN.  I just did W1D1 of C25K, but I finished it and had such a runner’s high afterwards.

My cool down song was, appropriately, the Glee cast version of Don’t Stop Believing.

On the 9th day of Christmas…

21 Dec

I’m pretty sure it’s no secret that I like the Twilight series.  I know there are people pointing and laughing now…that’s OK, get it out of your system. Done?  Good…let’s move on.

So I love Twilight.  The woman isn’t a very good writer, but she can tell a heck of a story.  I loved the first book and was very meh on the second (I just kept reading and wondering when Edward would be back.  I enjoyed it a lot more the 2nd time I read it.) so I didn’t expect to love the movie but it was amazing.  Way better than the first one.  The addition of a shirtless Jacob didn’t hurt.  And the music was great.  One of the things that really makes a movie for me is the soundtrack.  I would LOVE to have the soundtrack to New Moon.  And while we’re at it, I want the soundtrack to Twilight.  Good music is essential for running and cleaning and studying and everything else in life.  These soundtracks would keep me going.

On the 7th day of Christmas…

19 Dec

Glee.  I’ve apparently been missing something HUGE with this show and I want in on it!  I’ve tried to find episodes online but all that’s available is the last 5 episodes.  I’m a little obsessive compulsive about this kind of thing and absolutely hate picking up on it after it’s started.  So even though the 1st season doesn’t come out on DVD until December 29th, I want it.  And in the meantime, I’ll take the DVD of the pilot episode to tide me over.  I suspect I’m also going to need the soundtrack.  When I love something I *really* love it.  I think Glee would most likely be true love for me!

Seriously, what is not to love here?

Thrifty Thursday: Filling your iPod

03 Dec

Darn!  Most of the good songs on iTunes are now $1.29.  And if you have an iPod, you may think that’s the easiest way to purchase music…not so!  Amazon.com still offers lots of music for only $.99 and they have an mp3 downloader that will put the music right into the iTunes software for you so that it ends up on your iPod next time you sync it.  It is really easy and has saved me a fair amount of money not only because it’s cheaper, but because they also frequently offer coupon codes for free music.  Just a couple of weeks ago, I got 3 free songs by using the coupon code MP34FREE.  (It may still be working, give it a try!  Comment and let others know if it works for you.)

They also have a loooooooooong list (over 1300) of totally free songs.  Not just a handful every week like iTunes does, but a bunch that are free every.single.day.  Some are good, some are not, but there’s a little something for every musical taste in there.

And if you like Christmas music, they are offering a new song FREE each day this month!

Now if I can only save enough to get myself an iPod dock…

Fun Stuff Friday — I Like To Move It

16 Oct

My kids LOVE dance parties.  We always start them out with this song from Madagascar.  It’s a great way to get a little exercise in a fun way, especially when the weather is dismal and prevents outside activities like it has been most of this week.  As soon as my oldest gets home from school today I’ll be putting on our dance party mix and we’ll be doing a little move it, move it.
