Hopping on the Twitter Train

08 May

I have succumbed to the pressure. As you can see, I am now twittering. Or is it tweeting? Whatever. Anyway, my twitter stream is located to the left there and I’m JCVmama. Follow me!

Gah, this feels so attention whorish. But I’ve been wanting to add a mini-update thing to my blog and I couldn’t get my Facebook status updates to work, so there you are.

Adventures in CSS.

25 Apr

As you’ve probably noticed if you’ve popped in here at all over the last few days, I’ve been working on the blog a little bit.  Looking for a new theme, making some adjustments to the CSS and widgets, and updating my blogroll.  I think I’m just about done, except for a little minor tweaking.  I was looking for something spring-y and flowery, and though this isn’t exactly what I wanted I’m happy with it for now!  If you don’t have the Century Gothic font installed on your machine, I recommend downloading it here so you can see this blog the way it was intended to be seen.

You’ve also probably noticed that the posts have picked up again.  Now that Violet is happy to hang out in the swing or Pack & Play for a little while, I’m getting a little more net time that allows me to type.  (I was getting plenty of net time before, but most of it involved nursing her.  I need both hands to really type!)  And with more net time that allows me to type, I’ve started a work-at-home job.  I am now working as a kgb_ agent.  I have more to share about this, but that’s another post for another day.

1 Year!

22 Apr

I missed the actual anniversary of this blog (I made the 1st post on April 19) but it’s never too late to reflect on a year gone by.  In the year since starting this blog, I have gotten pregnant and had a baby, my husband has been laid off, my oldest son had his 6th birthday and started kindergarten, my youngest son had his 2nd birthday and has started really talking, I have rediscovered my faith in God and started going to an awesome church, and so much more.

Over the past year, the number one search term that has led people to this blog is “Jesus Christ is not a weapon.”  That’s a quote from the TV show Lost that struck me funny and I used it as the title for an entry.  The 2nd most used term was “immoral conduct.”  We have our ex-school superintendent to thank for that one!  Number 3 is “saving on cable.”  I wrote an entry about how I managed to get our cable bill reduced and apparently that’s a hot topic these days!

I’ve made 267 posts and gotten 289 legitimate comments.  I’ve been through 3 or 4 different themes now, and will probably change again as soon as I’ve posted this!  Overall I’ve really enjoyed blogging, even though I’m pretty sure there aren’t a ton of people reading.  I’m trying to get back into the swing of things now that Violet is a bit older and I have a bit more time to myself.  So thanks for reading, and leave a comment every now and then, OK?

Technical Difficulties

03 Feb

I can’t figure out if there’s something wrong with my computer (it’s running painfully slow, and I keep getting weird error messages) or if something is wrong with WordPress, but I am having trouble making posts.  I finally deleted the one I was trying to make because I couldn’t get the YouTube video to embed and then I couldn’t edit it to add a link.  Frustrating!

But if you’re curious, you must click this link.  Because I love Jesus, but I drink a little.  (It’s about 4 minutes in, but that *will* make sense!)

More on my plate than I can handle!

28 Oct

Yes, my absences are more and more frequent these days.  October has always been a crazy month at my house.  We have 3 birthdays, the fall weather often lures us to outside activities, and it seems to be the last month before the holidays really kick into high gear so we always over-schedule ourselves in an effort to avoid the November and December craziness.  Add to that a pregnancy that has been “unpredictable,”  a bad cold, my husband being out of the house a lot more than he was over the last several months, and you get a mama who has spread herself WAY too thin.

The computer has been just about the last thing on my mind most days.  I’ve been falling asleep the minute I sit down so I’ve tried to avoid sitting in the hopes I’d actually manage to stay awake for the important stuff that *must* be done.  It took me 3 tries to get through the RedBox movie we rented the other night…not because it was bad, but because I couldn’t keep my eyes open!  FWIW, we loved the concept and rented another one today with a promo code.  With any luck I’ll manage to get through it tonight so we don’t have to pay for it.

So as my absences have become longer and more frequent, I’m hoping that is coming to an end soon.  November is almost here and it does seem like this little girl is going to stay put at least for a couple more months, even if she (or rather, my uterus) continues to act like she won’t.  I still haven’t fallen in love with the laptop, but am determined to give it another chance for this very reason…I figure if I can get used to using it in bed or in the living room, I’m more likely to spend some time on the computer every night.  If I can just stay awake long enough to have a coherent thought, that is!
