Ugh. Yesterday didn’t go as I’d hoped. You’ll eventually get details, but I’m still trying to figure out where to go from here with that situation. I will say that it involves me going back to work, but that’s all I can share at this moment. (Though if you’re my friend on Facebook, you can find some details there. Check the status update comments.)
And speaking of Facebook, I am trying to decide whether or not to make a Facebook page for my blog. I’m seeing more and more people out there who have done this and I have to wonder what the benefits are. I’d probably get more comments, right? I mean, if you’re on Facebook it’s super easy to just comment on a post…moreso than it is here. I’m at a point where I really need encouragement and to get no comments at all on many of my posts is hard. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is even out there reading! And then I wonder if I really want anyone reading…
So what say you? Would that be a great way of connecting/interacting? If you blog, do you have a FB page? Have you seen any benefits to it? Drawbacks? Let me know by clicking on the comment link in the right hand column. —————————->
To comment, you must provide a name (first name only is fine), an email address to prove you’re legit (I promise I won’t post it, share it, or use it inappropriately), and you need to enter an anti-spam word. Easy peasy!

I do have a facebook fan page. I’m not sure if there is any advantage to having it, exposure wise. I definitely have more followers, but still not as many as I’d like and definitely not as many comments as I’d like. That said, I do like having the separate facebook identity as my blog is not shared with family and some friends. This gives me an opportunity to share my blog with my online friends and some IRL friends without having to share it with my entire family, colleagues, etc. Other than that, the jury is still out on it for me.

Hi! I just started a Facebook page for my blog, but I haven’t done anything except set it up. Initially, about 20% of my traffic came from Facebook, but now it has leveled off. I did recently lose 1 follower (maybe because I haven’t done anything with the page).

Hey, Melissa…..
I don’t have a FB page for my blog, but whenever I write a new post, I go back to FB and post a link. It has increased my visits by quite a bit whenever a new link is posted – a lot of hits are from FB addys, but I haven’t taken the time to actually calculate by how much. I also noticed a lot of hits from Sanfordherald.com lately and wondered why — I see that I’m linked on their web site and so are you……I do get more hits from FB, though. I think posting a link is a good way to test the waters, if you want to start there, and you don’t have to seek out new fans/friends – you already have a friend base to connect with. I do get some comments on the FB post, but not as many as I would have thought.
By the way — the work I had to type in to confirm I’m human was “BROAD” — I’m trying hard not to read too much into that, but it is sending my mind in all kinds of directions – “old broad” or “broad” as in width……neither a pretty picture! hahahahahahahah

Melissa, this is me, too. I prefer my Facebook friends list to not get my blog right into their feed. If people go and look, there’s a blog link on my profile so it’s no big secret but I figure most would prefer not to have every thought from my blog in their feed just because they’re my friend, KWIM? Like people I went to high school with…do they really need to know my angst?
Mrs. Mayhem, thanks for the thought…20% is a good sized chunk! I did make a page but haven’t decided if I’m going to do anything with it. Still contemplating!

Kim, you always make me LOL! For what it’s worth, I just ended up with “broad” too!
I am not sure how I feel about being linked (With my first and last name!) from the Herald’s site. Since I’ve never shared my full name here, it makes me uncomfortable but it’s also not a huge secret if you take a few minutes to try to figure it out!
Still thinking!

Yeah — when I was listed in the Herald’s blog list when they used to have it in the actual paper, it made me nervous at first. I try hard to not put anything on there that hasn’t already happened – like I don’t advertise an upcoming vacation, but wait and talk about it after. So, I got used to it and don’t mind it so much now. I see the point you made about not wanting to use your current FB friends list for each post link — I thought of that, too, but I figure if they aren’t interested in my thoughts, they don’t need to click on the link…..and maybe they don’t need to be on my friends list! hahaha
When I started blogging, I only wrote for myself and didn’t seek out readers. Once I started getting readers and realized some were strangers, the way I wrote changed – I’m not sure how I feel about that. But, it is what it is…..I tend to be an open book, anyway, so I’m not totally self conscious about it, but do write with a heightened awareness, which does stiffle me at times (imagine that – me, stiffled)!!!
Oh, and I got “VAN” this time — as in big vehicle or not for the sports car crowd…..hhhmmm – maybe I won’t comment here for a while – at least until I get my self esteem built back up!!! LOL

The Herald’s blog is actually how I found you. I don’t have a blog, and I guess I’ve never really seen the benefits to having a facebook page for a blog..Maybe if you have friends that are into blogs/friends that aren’t into blogs, it’s a good way to keep the ones who are into them informed. Did that make sense?
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your candor and honesty on here. It’s difficult to acknowledge struggles sometimes, and I am truly sorry you are going through so much.

I still read here
when I get the chance. I don’t always get to check my blog roll every day, but I do check as often as I can.
