Elections are like diaper changes!
Seriously, this is what I’m thinking as I just changed a very nasty one. They’re not really much fun, but they have to be done every so often to ensure comfort for everyone involved. You can’t necessarily guarantee that by changing things you’ll be better off because things can quickly become messy again, but you can trust that it’s only a matter of time before you get the chance to do it again and hope that things improve this time around.
I know there are a lot of people who are sad and scared today. I am willing to admit that the complete control the Democrats seem to have scares me a little bit. But we have the opportunity to vote again for House and Senate seats in a couple of years. I don’t believe that 2, 4, or even 8 years from now we’ll be a socialist nation. I have faith in our system of checks and balances and I’m putting my trust in our leaders. That’s all any reasonable person can do…on either side of the fence!

It’s nice to see someone in Sanford write about the election and not call everyone who didn’t vote for Obama a “redneck bigot” or equate everything with opposition to Obama with his race rather than his stance on issues like one local newspaper writer. Finding your blog today is a breath of fresh air. I might start one myself. I voted for McCain, but am willing to give Obama a chance.

While there were certainly some who did not vote for him due to race, I like to think that most people were able to see past that. Definitely his stance on some issues were concerning but overall, he made more sense for me and my family than the other guy. Just because someone else isn’t in the same situation we’re in doesn’t mean they’re wrong! I try to remember how I felt after the passt 2 elections and be a gracious “winner.”
