As a woman who hasn’t worked outside the home in 6 years and who is currently pregnant, the job market is not very promising. As ideal as a seasonal retail job would be, I know that being on my feet for hours at a time may be a problem, especially as we get close to Christmas when I’ll be 8 months pregnant and things start to get crazy. So I’ve been looking for something in an office setting, but the hours for those are less flexible, which means if my husband does find a job or gets some contract work we run into a childcare issue. And of course nobody wants to hear that you’ll have to be out in 4 months for a minimum of 6 weeks.
I interviewed for a position today that would be perfect for me. My interviewer was very nice, but I felt like I was being unfair to him because of the whole pregnancy/maternity leave thing. Legally they can’t discriminate…but I know that if *I* were in his position and had a stack of resumes a mile high, the last person I’d hire is the pregnant girl who needs a significant amount of time off in the near future. But with our financial situation getting dire (I’ve reached the point where I’m deciding which bills to pay this month and which I can push off a bit longer.) we really need some income.
So if you know of a part time job that doesn’t mind that I’m pregnant and will be off work roughly from January 19-March 2, (that’s a rough guess, it may be longer or the dates may go a week or 2 in either direction) doesn’t care that I haven’t had a job in over 6 years, and may offer some flexibility in hours let me know. For what it’s worth, I’ve worked restaurant, retail, office, sales, project management, etc. I have a marketing degree. I don’t need to make a ton of money, just enough to make sure we can pay ALL of the bills every month or at least the mortgage and utilities. I don’t need benefits. I’m not too proud to answer phones. Or work retail, as long as I can sit down and rest occasionally. I’m a hard worker and I’d rather have too much to do than not enough. Well versed in computers and most widely used applications. I do need to stay in Lee County due to gas prices, unfortunately. That seems to leave me with very few options. I’m checking the paper daily and have my resume out to a few places right now so I’m hopeful that something will turn up…but obviously networking a little bit is one of the best ways to find a job!
