Where has my baby gone?

15 Jul

Tomorrow, this baby boy starts kindergarten. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday that he was this tiny. He’ll be 6 in October and I just can’t believe it’s been that long.

We went to Open House last night and got to meet his teacher. I liked her quite a bit, so that’s a load off my mind. He also has a couple of friends from preschool in his class. These 3 have spent the last 2 years together, so they know each other quite well. I know he’s excited about that. (Frankly, so am I…it should make the adjustment a bit smoother!)

We decided against the bus. I’m just not ready for that right now, and though the cost of gas may make this a short-lived experiment, I just feel much better if I can drop him off and pick him up. My husband is pretty adamantly against the bus, so for now my kindergartener will be a car rider. Which is fine with me! With my other half home most of the time, it shouldn’t be too much to deal with. He’ll probably have drop-off duty and I’ll have pick-ups. Once the baby arrives, we may have to make adjustments but for now I think it’s the best plan for us.

So tomorrow my first baby is off to school. My older brother and his wife just had their first child yesterday and I so want to tell them not to blink because they’ll miss something. I won’t, because when I got advice like that I usually just rolled my eyes. In those early days of sleep deprivation I just couldn’t imagine it. But it’s true. It all happens SO fast.

Good luck to your son – and to the Mama – tomorrow. My baby starts kindergarten July 31. She is so excited, which makes me excited, too, but I bet I shed a few tears. Kind of makes me want another one, but don’t tell my husband :-)

It’s a good thing I’m already pregnant…between the nostalgia and the babies growing up and the new nephew I’m am really feeling the baby fever.

Tears will definitely be shed here tomorrow. Me mom says after she got me off to school that first day she sat down on the front porch and just cried her heart out. I’m sure that is pretty much the reaction I’ll have! The hormones are crazy right now and this is just such a huge step for us.

I’ll say a little prayer for you in the morning! Phillip started driver’s ed yesterday, and it just seems surreal!! Baby fever is crazy around our house this week — maybe you can send some good pregnancy vibes my way!!

Amy, you know you have all the spare pregnancy vibes I can muster! (And if I can do anything for you, please let me know.)

Things went well today, but I’ll put that in a separate post when I am up to talking about it…

Send me an email and let me know who he has! I was okay for the half day…it was the full day that got me! I was a mess. I wasn’t a SAHM, but Hailey had been at Stepping Stones with me since she was 2 so it was tough to go to work without her. It was hard to get used to going in the preschool classroom and not have her there…or walk past and not hear her voice (since she is ALWAYS talking!). On the flip side, I was VERY excited about her starting first grade today!!

My sister said the car rider line was a nightmare today! It gets a little better after the first few weeks, but not much! Hailey goes to the YMCA and even if I need to get her right after school, I let her go to the Y and pick her up there b/c I can get her so much quicker that way!

Enjoy your last two days before school starts “for real”.
