One Tired Mama

31 Jul

So I’ve been on drop off AND pick up duty for school all week.  My husband has been driving back and forth to Lillington and doing training all day long.  We’ve had to do something pretty much every night on top of that, including tonight…I’ll be going to the PTA meeting at school while my husband takes the boys to tee-ball practice.  I think my youngest is getting a cold.  I haven’t been sleeping well between nightmares and a toddler who thinks 11PM is party time.  Plus between the church shooting and some other issues, I’m really just emotionally drained.  I’m coming into that super hormonal stage of pregnancy where *everything* makes me cry, so that doesn’t help matters at all!

I am really looking forward to having my husband home tomorrow to help…but even more, I can’t wait for tomorrow night and having dinner with a good friend.  Girl’s nights out are one of the best ways I know to renew my spirit.  When we lived in Florence, there was a group of us that had one at least once a month and it was SO much fun!  Nothing beats a GNO.

Anyone watching The Mole?

30 Jul

Years and years ago, I watched the first season of The Mole and really enjoyed it.  I never watched it after that…I think I had a baby or something and TV was suddenly a luxury I didn’t have time for.  Anyway, the most recent incarnation has been very entertaining, especially since there is NOTHING else on TV right now!

I am convinced that Nicole is the mole.  Yes, she’s said she was sabotaging so people would *think* she was the mole, but really…why would you TELL someone that?  Why not just play the game that way and keep your big yap shut?  Plus there was that whole “I could kill you and leave no forensic evidence.” thing.  I’ve watched enough reality shows to know that producers don’t like that kind of stuff and it’s the type of talk that will get you kicked off.  So why no reprimands?  Why no response from the producers?  Could it be because she’s the mole and they can’t lose her?  I don’t know, but it sure seems like she’s been awfully suspicious, not to mention annoying as hell and divisive.

I would be very surprised if it was Mark.  He seemed way too genuinely upset when they burned their journals.  Plus I’ve seen no evidence of major sabotage from him.  If he’s the mole, he played a good game!

And as for Craig, I suppose it could be him.  I wouldn’t be very surprised.  He’s really kept a low profile and not talked a lot, which is how I’d play it if I were the mole.  He does a good job of “playing dumb” but I don’t think he really is.  So I wouldn’t be completely surprised if he was the mole, but my money’s on Nicole.

Well, if I had any money it would be on Nicole.  I guess it’s a good thing I don’t, because I’m almost always wrong about these things!  It looks like the internet buzz is pegging Craig, and there are way smarter people than me watching!

Adjusting the Monthly Budget

30 Jul

Our savings is starting to dwindle, so it was time to figure out where we can save some money in our monthly budget.  We’ve already stopped going out to eat for the most part and are making weekly meal plans which helps us avoid the “what do you want for dinner?” trap that usually ends in us going out.  Since we’re upgrading our super cheap, bare bones cell phone plan to add a lot more minutes as well as data, we thought we might drop our land line.  So I called Windstream this morning to figure out how much that would save us.

Unfortunately, not enough.  If we drop our phone service, our Dish network bill goes up by $5/month, plus our DSL goes up by $20/month.  There goes that savings!  Ugh…it’s so frustrating!  And we HAVE to add minutes to our cell plan…our bill last month was more than double it’s normal rate because my husband is using his cell exclusively for business calls.  So if I can pay double the bill we have now and either pay an insane amount for overage or pay a bit less than double and get 1500 minutes + unlimited data, then it only makes good sense to do that.  We’ll eventually be billing it to the business, but since there’s no income there yet it does present a minor obstacle.

I did drop some of our phone services, as well as dropping our Dish plan down a notch.  I wonder how long it will take before people start to notice the missing channels and I get complained at?  (Yes, I know that’s terrible grammar.  Deal.)  It will save us $30/month.  Which really isn’t much when your income is zero, but it’s a start.  Our electric is currently on an equal pay plan, so I can’t do much better with that, and we’re already pretty conservative with the water use.  I guess if the income doesn’t start in a month or 2 we’ll have to get really crazy…maybe drop Dish completely (I think I might die if we did this!) and eat the expenses involved with dropping our land line.  We wouldn’t save a ton, but it would save us a bit anyway.  We had really gotten spoiled with the good income and when it suddenly disappears, it hurts.

Crazy Cravings

29 Jul

You may remember a couple of months ago my obsession with mango stuff.  That has now been curbed by a super violent vomiting episode (the only time I’ve actually throw up this entire pregnancy) in which the recent contents of my stomach included mango sorbet and orange juice.  Yuck.

But now I’m dying for a Mountain Dew Icee.  And I have no idea who in town has them.  Any suggestions, Sanfordians?  I’m desperate.

Getting up before 9AM is not fun.

28 Jul

Have I mentioned just how amazing my husband is? Not lately? Well, let me just gush for a bit. He does morning drop off duty for school so that I can sleep in and avoid the worst of the morning sickness. I seem to do better if I can sleep later, so he is generous and gets up with our oldest son every morning, feeds him breakfast, gets him ready, makes his lunch, and then drives him to school. This allows me (and our toddler) to sleep in and we usually tumble out of bed sometime around 9AM. By then, the worst of the nausea is past and I am usually able to cope with it.

This week, he is at a training class in Lillington all week. Which means he leaves the house at about 5AM so I have morning duty. And it SUCKS. My alarm went off at 6:30 and I hit the snooze until 7AM. Got up, woke up the big kid, fixed his breakfast, gagged a lot, made his lunch, sent him to get dressed, gagged some more, threw some clothes on, then pulled the cranky toddler out of his warm bed and got everyone out to the car. Made it to the school, dropped him off and headed back home. All before 8AM. And of course cranky toddler fell back to sleep in the car and so I just carried him back in and laid him down on the couch to sleep. Wish I could go back to bed but now I’m all awake.

I guess I should try to be productive or something. I’ve got 2 bathrooms that need to be cleaned and laundry out my ears. There’s no telling what I could accomplish if I actually got up at a normal hour…
