Another rite of passage…the first PB&J.

13 Jun

Today my toddler had his very first PB&J. I’m a person who likes to hold off on some of the typical food allergens until after the 2nd birthday, but since he stole some of his brother’s peanut butter last week and had no adverse reaction, I gave in today while making lunch. I cut a piece of bread in half, cut off the crusts, put a little PB on one side, a little all natural, no sugar added peach J on the other, then sliced it into 4 small pieces. He loved it! And how easy does this make things for me? I can fix the same lunch for both of them now. Plus it gives him some more protein at lunch time…normally he just eats fruit and some cheese. He’s such a skinny little thing and I’ve been trying to figure out good ways to get some healthy calories in there. PB&J seems like a good way to do that.

Just one more step on the road to growing up.

Almost human, thanks to Zofran!

13 Jun

I feel almost human today. I picked up my Zofran yesterday and took some right away. Managed some dinner, which is a step in the right direction. Then my toddler stayed in his own bed ALL NIGHT and so I got a good night’s sleep for once. It’s amazing how much better those 2 things can make me feel! I’m even considering taking the boys swimming this afternoon by myself. Hopefully the air quality is a bit better today than yesterday!

I do have a complaint, though…our prescription coverage is through Express Scripts and I can only get 12 tablets at a time. Luckily, this is not a monthly limit. So once I run through my 12 (which could take a couple of days if I take them every 8 hours like the prescription says…I won’t, because it seems like they’re lasting longer than that) I have to trot myself back over to the pharmacy and get 12 more. I understand that it is an expensive drug. But I’d rather pay a higher co-pay (it was only $7 for the 12) and make fewer trips to the pharmacy, especially since they don’t keep it in stock. At least there is a generic available…the brand was a $150 co-pay for 12. YIKES! Thank God we have insurance. I complain about our healthcare costs a lot, but at least we do have coverage. It’s not great, but it’s definitely better than nothing.
