Mama knows best.

15 May

Seriously, listen to your mama.

This afternoon, my oldest son was sitting at the kitchen table and tipping the chair back. I have told him over and over not to do this, but he does not listen. So I am (again!) telling him to keep all 4 chair legs on the floor because if he doesn’t he will fall and bust open his…

And right at that minute he did. Fell over backwards and busted his head wide open on the track to the sliding glass door. It’s probably a miracle that he didn’t go right *through* the sliding glass door. When I checked the back of his head, I was shocked to see blood dripping all over the place. Luckily I kept my wits enough to remember that scalp lacs bleed a LOT and get a towel to put pressure on it. When it didn’t slow down after several minutes I called the ped’s office and they had us come right in. (Yes, the same office that I was upset with 2 weeks ago…we haven’t found a new one yet and now I’m thinking we may stick with them.) They got him cleaned up and stitched and we’re none the worse for wear. He did really well once the lidocaine numbed him up. I was very proud of him.

It’s almost comical…I am *always* telling my kids not to do this or that because they’ll bust their head open. I think I say it about once a day, if not more. I don’t even notice it coming out of my mouth at this point. And apparently I was right! I am laughing about it now because all is OK and if I didn’t laugh I would just cry. It was really scary and not something any mom wants to see happen to their child. We’ve all lived to fight another day and that seems like something to celebrate after the last few weeks we’ve had.
